Nathan D. Calvert

Nathan David Calvert passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones on June 29, 2026 in Denver, Colorado. Nathan was born in Englewood, Colorado on October 14, 1983, to Randall Moody Calvert and Rebecca Woody Henning. From an early age, Nathan pursued excellence with curiosity and discipline. He explored many interests—video games, piano, gymnastics, and snow skiing—and had a gift for mastering whatever captured his attention. His talents were remarkable, but his defining strength was his intellect and work ethic. He excelled across subjects in school, pairing natural abilities with relentless effort graduating from Smoky Hill High School in Aurora, Colorado.

Higher education was Nathan’s life pursuit. He earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Aerospace Engineering and a Master’s Degree in Applied Math with Honors from the University of Colorado at Boulder. While at CU, Nathan was chosen for a highly competitive internship with NASA where he worked on the Orion Space Capsule for seven years. His wind-tunnel research on atmospheric reentry earned him a National Science Foundation grant, which supported his continued research and his Ph.D. with distinction from Princeton University.

Nathan’s focus then shifted to his career in the Space and Missile Defense Industries. Nathan was a valued contributor to many major companies including; NASA, Lockheed Martin, Raytheon, Lawrence Livermore Lab, Inversion, and True Anomaly. He brought innovation, genius and dedication to every team he joined. His career became a big source of purpose and passion, driven by a strong desire to make an impact.

Travel enriched Nathan’s life. He had the pleasure of visiting many beautiful places all around the globe. He was drawn to new and exciting cultures where he could experience the language, taste the local flavors, and see the historical art and architecture. Nathan mastered the French language during his two years in Paris France as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

Nathan is survived by his partner Marco Mondragón, parents, sister Natasha Nordgren, sister Aricia Talbott, brother John Calvert, sister Vanessa Henning, stepfather Patrick Henning, Grandfather David Calvert, Grandmother Reba Webb, brother-in-law Travis Nordgren, brother-in-law William Talbott, sister-in-law Alyssa Guentert, nephews Parker, Marek, Connor, William and Jacob Talbott, and many many aunts, uncles, and cousins.

Nathan was predeceased by brother Chance Calvert, Grandmother Phyllis Kaye Calvert, Grandfather Jess Woody, Uncle Jess ”Buster” Woody, and Aunt Tina Webb.

Above all, Nathan was a loyal and compassionate friend. He had an uncommon capacity for empathy and left a lasting imprint on the many lives he touched. Although 42 years does not seem to be enough time on this earth, Nathan’s family and friends are eternally grateful to have had him in their lives. His experiences and accomplishments well exceed his life span. His influence will linger with his loved ones forever. May you have eternal joy and peace our dear son, brother, uncle, partner and friend.
