Nora Jean Anderson Johnston
Nora was born on August 7, 1935 to Charles and Agnes (Dotty) Anderson in Gary, Indiana and passed on February 24, 2026 in Centennial, Colorado. She graduated from Horace Mann High School in Gary, IN in 1951. She went on to work her way through college where she earned her BA from Indiana University in 1957 and her Masters in 1958 in social work.
Nora first worked at Family Planning Agency in Indianapolis, IN. She later moved to Denver in 1966 where she worked at Fort Logan Federal Center Federal Center. Nora's last job was for the Jefferson County Health Department where she retired from in 1988.
She joined the Colorado Mountain Club of Colorado, so she could begin to hike in the beautiful mountains. While in the Mountain Club, she met her future husband, Bryce V. Johnston. The were married on May 9, 1970 in Denver. They both led members on hikes, climbs and outings for the club. As they grew older, they joined the SkiMeisters, a 55+ group, where they continued to hike, climb and ride their bicycles in the Colorado mountains.
In retirement, they took a number of trips with Grand Circle and Overseas Adventure Travel. They were able to travel extensively from Central and South America, to Africa and the near far east. In the meantime, they had joined a camera club, and as a result, they both loved to take photos of their trips and they put on slide shows for those trips for various groups.
After Bryce died in 2016, Nora decided she needed more support in her daily living as she had several falls and sustained a broken hip. After that, she was confined to a wheelchair. She moved from Dayton Place to The Bridge in Aurora. Following several illnesses and rehab centers, she move in a home with caring ongoing support in January 2026.
Nora is survived by her niece Kathleen Anderson of Arizona. Preceded in death by her husband, Bryce V. Johnston, and brother Charles Anderson.
Memorial service will be held Thursday, March 19, 2026 at 2:00pm at Augustana Lutheran Church, 5000 E. Alameda Ave. Denver, CO 80246 held in Christ Chapel, Library, Anna Pauson Room. Memorials may be made to Augustana Lutheran Church in Nora's name.
