Obituary

Paul Dominic Oser passed peacefully from pancreatitis on Friday, September 20, 2024, surrounded by many of his closest family and friends. Born in New Brunswick, NJ, on March 16, 1965, Paul had a dynamic personality and was unforgettable. After graduating from high school in Cincinnati, OH, he attended Xavier University there before transferring to Regis University in Denver, CO. He graduated from Metropolitan State College of Denver with a BA in English with a minor in Natural Science, and then received his Master of Education from the University of Phoenix. Paul was an excellent student and was on the dean's list or President's list every semester. He taught at Muffles College in Orange Walk Town, Belize, for two years after graduating with his undergraduate degree. After returning to Denver, he taught in several Denver County and Jefferson County public schools including Pomona High School where he was highly praised for his establishment of a Response to Intervention (RTI) program. Paul also taught at Manual High School, Wheat Ridge High School, Evergreen High School, Arvada High School and most recently, the New American School. He was widely respected for his innovative approach to the teaching/learning enterprise, his counseling support, as well as his ability to harness his students' gifts, strengths, resiliencies, and dreams.

Paul was an active artist, forever learning about art and infusing it into virtually every situation he was in. He was creative, funny (always ready with a pun or humorous quip), and extremely loyal. He loved life and he loved his life. For the last six years, he and his husband Gordon shared their love of education and learning, music, travel, and the great outdoors. Paul climbed many of Colorado's "14er" mountains and was an avid swimmer, hence his love of Belize, Mexico and the Caribbean. Just in the last year, he and Gordon traveled to Costa Rica, Mexico, the Caribbean, Panama City, Panama, and the National Parks of the American West. They capped off their recent summer travel with an epic two-week tour of Turkey. Paul was enthralled with the landscapes, the architecture and its early Christian roots, and enjoyed swimming in the Adriatic Sea.   As a member of Denver's Saint John's Episcopal Cathedral, he particularly loved the "Wilderness" service and enjoyed contemplating the mystery of life and beyond.

Paul was preceded in death by his mother, Rita Tersigni Oser. He is survived by his husband Gordon Brooks, of Denver, CO (previously of Lafayette, LA), his father Jim Leo Oser of Denver, CO, his brother, Dr. Barry and Mrs. Carrie (née Smith) Oser of Clancy, MT, his sister Ms. Christina Paasche and her partner Calvin Fields of Madison, AL, stepson Ryan Brooks (wife Ashley), and stepdaughter Elizabeth "EB" Brooks (partner John Arceneaux). Also survived by four nephews and a niece, all of whom he adored and talked about constantly: Quade and Taryn Oser, Robert and Vincent Paasche, and Nikolas Fields. Paul loved and was loved by everyone he met and his passing is a tragic loss to the Denver educational community, and the Oser and Brooks families.

A memorial service will be held for Paul on Friday, October 25, 2024 at 1:00PM at Saint John's Episcopal Cathedral, 1350 N. Washington Street, Denver, CO. There will be a reception following the service also at the Cathedral. All who knew and loved Paul are invited to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Denver Art Museum where he loved browsing through its collections and Saint John's Cathedral in his name.
