Peter Weiss,
Md
December 10, 1941 – January 6, 2026
Dr. Peter Weiss, a brilliant and compassionate physician, died Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at home with his adored wife of 61 years. At 84, his body was weak from escalating heart disease, but his mind was focused, incisive and regularly displayed his dry wit. Wiki Peter and Poppio are gone.
He was born in the Bronx on December 10, 1941, the only child of Stanley and Lottie Weiss. He grew up in a home imbued with Jewish values. Always an outstanding student, Peter graduated from Bronx High School of Science and continued his studies at NYU. After 3 years as an undergraduate he entered Downstate Medical School in Brooklyn. From there he continued his training in internal medicine at The University of Colorado Medical Center with a 1 year internship and 2 year Medical residency followed by a fellowship at Johns Hopkins in clinical pharmacology. He then served as a Major in the US Army during Vietnam at Fort Meade Hospital, Maryland, 1969-1971.
Peter met Eileen at 17 at a resort in the Catskill Mountains, NY, where Peter was a waiter and Eileen a guest with her family. They married in 1964. Their love and admiration for each other lasted forever. They grew up together. After the army, they returned to Colorado for his private practice of internal medicine. He became an integral part of the St. Anthony Central Hospital community. He served in many capacities at the hospital at Sloan's Lake. He was a peerless physician, Chief of the Department of Medicine, Chief of Staff, Medical Director of St. Antony's Hospitals Senior Health Center and member of the Board of Trustees. He launched and directed St. Anthony Hospitals Transitory Care Unit, PALS 1993-2005.
He received The Antonian Award in 1987 (the highest award granted each year) and a Papal Blessing from Pope John Paul II in 2003. Peter was a Fellow American College of Physicians, American Board of Internal Medicine and Diplomate in Geriatric Medicine.
In addition to Eileen, Peter is survived by his son Seth with Rebecca and their daughters, Ruby, Stella and Tyler of Colorado, and his daughter Elana with her husband Jeff Rose and their children Eden and Auggie of Idaho. Also survived by many, many devoted friends and grateful patients.
Peter was kind, learned, ethical and dryly hilarious. He was a serious person who spent a lot of time thinking. He had a scholarly knowledge of Judaism and it was a joyful experience for him to participate in the Zoom, Torah Study with the "Saturday Minyan". He enjoyed all the precious time spent with the people he loved and in these last years, he delighted in sitting in the garden or front "stoop" of his home of 50 years with the warmth of the Colorado sun on his face.
A private service and Shiva were held at his home. A memorial gathering will be planned for this Spring.
