Ralph J.
Massey
December 23, 1929 – July 22, 2023
Ralph Joseph Massey, age 93, passed away on July 22, 2023 at his home in Denver with his seven children by his side. Son of Mel J. and Anna E. Massey (Kundusky), Ralph was born on December 23, 1929 in Cleveland, Ohio, and was raised along with his brother, Mel J. Massey and sister, Mary Ellen Massey Moore.
Ralph graduated with Phi Beta Kappa honors from Case Western Reserve in 1952. At the University of Chicago, he received a master's degree in Economics at the Industrial Relations Center. While in Chicago, he met and married Collette J. Brady from Sheldon, Iowa. While immersed in raising seven children, they found time to play bridge and ski with friends. As a corporate executive, Ralph's career spanned 36 years, beginning with the Ford Motor Company in Dearborn, Michigan, and retiring from Chemical Bank in Nassau, Bahamas.
Following a sudden illness, Ralph lost Collette, his wife of 35 years. Eventually, he met Carmina Pelaez of Lyford Cay, Bahamas, and they wed in 1991. Ralph took tango lessons to impress Carmina. Together, they had an active and fulfilling life, spending their time in the Bahamas and southern Florida.
An avid tennis player, Ralph retired his racket at 84 years of age. He enjoyed skiing, photography, and was an aviation and WWII enthusiast. Ralph earned a private pilot's license, flew in his retirement, and built his own plane. He sang in the choir at St. Paul's the Apostle Catholic Church in Lyford Cay, Bahamas. Ralph played a dynamic role in the Nassau Institute.
Ralph is survived by his wife, Carmina Pelaez-Massey, who resides in Coral Gables, Florida; his seven children, Elizabeth Massey-Seligman, Catherine Smith, Barbara Massey, Thomas Massey, James Massey (Charles), Mary Kay Massey and Carolyn Brock (David); stepchildren; Carmen Pelaez (deceased), Maria (Toni) Campisi (Angelo), Natacha Pelaez-Wagner, and Orfilio Pelaez (Camille); 10 grandchildren and 7 great grandchildren and extended family and friends.
