Obituary

Rick Cowen passed away unexpectedly on September 28, 2022 following a car accident.  He was born in Denver on August 15, 1950 to Dr. HC and Mary Cowen.

Rick grew up in southeast Denver and attended Slavens Elementary and Thomas Jefferson Junior/Senior High School. He graduated from University of Colorado Boulder in business transportation.

Rick worked for Weicker and then later Berkeley Moving and Storage as operations manager and moving consultant, respectively.  He was a business forms account representative at Data Documents before forming a partnership, American DataPrint.

Rick had a dry sense of humor and enjoyed giving friends and family a bad time. He was competitive in any game or sport (cribbage, racquetball, handball, flyfishing, basketball and especially golf). He was an excellent matsutake mushroom hunter. One of his favorite songs to sing was Edelweiss.

Some of the highlights of his life were salmon fishing In Alaska, making par on the 18 th hole at Pebble Beach, attending the 2019 Masters Golf Tournament, having the caddies at Tryall Golf Course in Jamaica yell "Ya Mon" after his first drive, and receiving a visit from a herd of 12 elephants at our "tent" in Victoria Falls National Park.

Rick is survived by his wife of nearly 48 years, Gloria Koshio; brothers Ron (Dee), Colorado Springs and Bob, Cleveland, OH; and nephew Jeff (Crystal) and great-nieces, Adelyn and Emilia, The Plains, OH. He was preceded in death by his parents; infant sister Lynette; golden retrievers Kuma and Sutter; and Roy, Joy and baby Leroy Koi.

Thank you to the Emergency Department team at University of Colorado Hospital. Your quick action and empathy are appreciated and will never be forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.  If you wish, please donate to an organization of your choice or conduct a kind or funny act for someone.
