Robert J.
Acker
April 25, 1939 – June 12, 2025
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Joe "Big Bobby" Acker Sr., who was better known as Robert and had a preference for it. on June 12. 2025 in Westminster, Colorado. He was born on April 25, 1939 in Union Chapel, Arkansas to Mable and Elmer Acker.
Robert had a strong work ethic and was loved at each of his jobs. At one time, he was a private driver for a doctor in Conway, Arkansas. He also held positions at the Co-Op grocery store in Globeville, Colorado and as a Safety Manager at Rocky Flats Arsenal in Colorado. The majority of Robert's career was at IBM in Boulder, where he retired twice, first retiring as a machinist. Then IBM asked him back from retirement to work as an IT Tech before retiring a second time after 35 years.
A man of taste, Robert had a love for fried catfish and enjoyed a cold Bud Light. He enjoyed listening to the blues and in terms of television, he was a big fan of the Family Feud with Steve Harvey and those "fools" in the Big Bang Theory. His all-time favorite movie was 'Buck and The Preacher', and he rooted for the Denver Broncos and the Denver Nuggets in sports. His favorite game to play was any card game with his cousin and good friend Deannie.
An avid family man, Robert often sought solace in Arkansas, where he loved attending family reunions, visiting old friends and staying at his childhood home. Locally, he enjoyed going out to eat with friends and family and visiting others whenever he had the chance. A strong advocate for civil rights, he always stood up for the causes he believed in and even accompanied his children and grandchildren to Denver's famous MLK Marade and local protest marches.
Robert was always friendly and never knew a stranger; he made friends wherever he went. His life lessons centered around the importance of building friendships and maintaining a positive demeanor.
His greatest legacy, however, is his 14 grandchildren and 1 great grandson whom he loved dearly. One of his greatest joys was attending any event his grandchildren were involved in. Robert had a significant impact on many, including his caregivers in the local pharmacy at Walmart, his physical therapists, doctors, nurses, neighbors, and a host of friends. He will be missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Robert is survived by his beloved children: sons; Robert Acker Jr. (Patty), and Gene Acker (Jo), daughters; Gail Jackson (Milford), Yolanda Haynes (Derrick), and Dana Weinand (Chad) and brother Willie Acker. He was predeceased by the love of his life & his wife of 43 years Malvina Acker (2009), father, mother, two brothers Cliff and Connell, and sister Athalene.
A private celebration of life will be held.
