Obituary

Robert A. Fitzner, Jr was born in Chicago, Illinois on Aug. 19, 1945 to Earlene and Robert A. Fitzner, Sr. In the fall of 1963, he took the train west to the University of Denver on a baseball scholarship. He joined the Kappa Sigma fraternity and was very active in that organization and other college organizations for many years after graduation. He received the Randolph J. McDonough Award in 1992 for his service to the university.

Bob worked in the pharmaceutical business for many years, which meant a move to the Boston area for 4 years. He returned to Denver in 1982 to work in the financial business and he formed his own company, RAF Financial, in 1986 and sold it in 1995.

Bob and Suzie were married in 1972 and had 52 special years together. Bob had a passion for golf and Suzie got into it too and they spent many days playing together. To keep this passion going they spent the winters in Mesquite, Nevada for 10 years. He also played fast-pitch softball for many years, traveling around the country, and made a lot of special friends.

In Sept. of 2014 Bob had an accident in the backyard which left him a quadriplegic. He had enough use of his right arm to be able to use his motorized wheelchair and got very proficient with it. During all this time he never lost his mental acuity and one of his favorite things was to write rants about the political situation in the country. He was amazing how well he coped with his infirmity and enjoyed the company of many friends, some from as far back as high school. He loved to relive the good old days and the stories got better with every telling.

He will be missed but is in a much better place and I'm sure on the golf course again.
