Robert B.
Kane
August 25, 1925 – May 21, 2025
Robert Butler Kane of Denver, CO passed away May 21, 2025 at his home with Rita by his side. He was born August 25, 1925 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin to Bessie (Rumbaugh) and John Kane. Growing up in Wauwatosa many a winter day was spent ice skating on the Menomonee River near their home and summers were spent at the family cabin on Army Lake. Bob, his brothers and some school friends also bicycled & camped throughout Northern Wisconsin. After graduating from Marquette High School Bob joined the Navy but by the time he finished basic training and flight training the war was winding down. After the war he headed back to Milwaukee and attended Marquette University where he obtained his law degree. Bob continued flying with the Navy reserves. He retired from the Navy as a Commander in 1985.
He met and married Mary Lou Geisen in 1948 and started both a family and a career in law in Wisconsin. They then moved to Florida. Bob and Mary Lou had seven children: Barbara Kane, Joe (Missy) Kane, Tom Kane, Jack Kane, Steve (Sue) Kane, Kathy Kane, Paul (Bernadette) Kane. Paul & Bernadette have two children Kaitlin and James Patrick (JP). They divorced in 1978. In the same year Bob received a job opportunity in Colorado to take a position as a disciplinary prosecutor for the Colorado Supreme Court.
Bob and Rita Gutierrez worked in the same office building, both lived on Cheesman Park and both commuted by bus to and from work would say hi or good morning in passing, but one day in January 1979 a snowstorm struck and we found ourselves standing at 15th and Court Street downtown waiting for an RTD #10 bus to take us home from work. After the third bus drove by so full of people, the bus driver wouldn't stop to let anyone else on, Bob turned to me and said "looks like we're not gonna get a bus ride this evening. How would you like to go have a drink and share a cab home?" That was the beginning of 46 years of shared laughter, travel, good times and bad. We enjoyed driving up to our condo on Fridays after work and spending the weekend either skiing or enjoying all that the Colorado mountains had to offer, then driving back Monday morning in time for work.
Once he retired he often like to boast to his friends in Wisconsin and Florida that during winter he would play a round of golf in the morning then head up to the mountains for an afternoon of downhill skiing. He kept playing golf almost weekly with his friend Jim until Covid hit.
Many of our travels included Kane reunions from Massachusetts to California and many states in between. None were more memorable than the reunion in Ireland, home of the Kane ancestors. Another favorite destination was New York City during the holidays. We've spent many Thanksgiving holidays there sometimes with family sometimes with friends but ALWAYS taking in the Macy's parade in all types of weather. No trip was complete without strolling through Central Park and taking the subway to Brooklyn then walking back on the Brooklyn Bridge to the view of magnificent NYC skyline.
Trains and river cruising was also an enjoyable way to travel and see the world. Bob's all-time favorite train travel trip was Alaska and the several days spent at Denali. Favorite river cruise was the Danube. Vienna to Bucharest with all the fascinating cities, beautiful countrysides, castles, monasteries, vineyards and old world charm.
Bob is survived by his wife, Rita, children and grandchildren. Preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Jack, Paul and Patricia Kane.
In keeping with Bob's wishes, no services will be held and will be inurned at Fort Logan National Cemetery, Denver, CO.
Thanks to First Light Health Care and all the wonderful caregivers helping Bob and to the At Home Health Care nurses, PT's and OT's. A special thanks to At Home Hospice for making the last weeks a peaceful transition.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Food Bank of the Rockies or Denver Museum of Nature and Science .
Gone from my sight, forever in my heart.
