Robert Douglas Macdonald, 96, of Highlands Ranch, Colorado passed away on Friday November 28, 2025 at the Windcrest Extended Care Facility. Bob spent the last two decades of his life as the loving husband to his wife Judy, whom he met at Grace Presbyterian Church in Littleton, Colorado, and they were married in December of 2004. Bob was an exceptional stepfather to Don Sampson and Cindy Fast, and a doting grandfather to their children.
Prior to his marriage to Judy, he was married for forty years to Helen (Buffington) who preceded him in death from ovarian cancer in 1998. He was a loving husband, caring for Helen through her final years in their home in Littleton, Colorado. He was a dedicated father and mentor to his two sons, Douglas and Paul, both of whom live in the Denver Metropolitan area.
Born on September 18, 1929, in Denver, Colorado, Bob spent his formative years in Canon City, Colorado with his parents, Hector Allan Macdonald and Georgia Lilley Macdonald, and his two brothers Hector Allan Jr. and Donald; all of whom preceded him in death.
After graduating from high school, Bob enlisted in the army in 1951, achieving the rank of Corporal as an investigator in the Counter-Intelligence Corps. During his service to the country, he earned the Army Occupation Medal at his station in Germany. Bob was honorably discharged in 1953 at Camp Carson in Colorado Springs.
Following his military service, Bob earned his Bachelor's Degree in Accounting & Business Administration from the University of Denver. His career in that field included successful positions at Financial Programs, Gates Rubber Company, and the City and County of Denver, from which he retired in 1991 as Division Business Director in the Wastewater Management and Operations Department.
Bob enjoyed sports, both as a participant and spectator. He was an avid golfer, and enjoyed skiing, camping, fishing, playing bridge, and travelling. He was a dedicated fan of the local professional sports franchises including the Denver Broncos, Colorado Rockies and Denver Nuggets, as well as the University of Colorado Buffaloes and the University of Denver Pioneers.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 17, 2026 at First Presbyterian Church of Littleton, 1609 West Littleton Blvd, at 1:00 PM. Donations may be made in Bob's memory to The First Presbyterian Church of Littleton , the Alzheimer's Association , or to the charity of your choice.
