Obituary

Robert L. Riegel, 86, passed away at his home in Denver, CO  July 3, 2022.
Bob was born November 1, 1935 to parents Guy and Nellie (Grant) Riegel in Springfield, CO and was the third of four children. He grew up on a farm near Wiley, CO where his father raised turkeys to feed the military during WWII. He graduated from Wiley High School.
Bob studied engineering at the University of Colorado then went to work at Rocky Flats (Department of Energy) for 35 years. He was a chemical engineer in charge of a research and development laboratory for gold plating, retiring after the plant closed .
Bob married Maris Gatchet Rendi  June 28, 1984.
He enjoyed singing, computer work, traveling, dancing, sailing and snorkeling. Bob loved his dogs dearly. Over the years he participated in a number of local choral groups and church choirs. During the 1990s and beginning of the new millennium he was a member of a drama group formed by choir members at Ascension Episcopal Church with performances annually. He was a member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church and sang in the choir.  Bob traveled most of the western world and mid-east after his retirement. His favorite trips were the Galapagos Islands and Africa.
He is survived by his spouse Maris, three daughters by a previous marriage, Linda Coons (Darrell), Lorree Gabossi (Ben) and Janice Smith (Bryan) and step-daughter Mara Rendi Farris (Paul), his four grandchildren, Kristoffer Smith (Meagan), Michelle Longo (Joe), Karsten Farris and Anderson Farris; two great-grandchildren, Olivia Longo and Joseph Longo and numerous nieces and nephews. Bob was preceded in death by his parents;  three brothers, Norman, Clyde and Wayne Riegel; sisters-in-law, Edith Riegel (Clyde), Linda Riegel (Wayne), Betty Riegel (Norman) and Mildred Riegel (Norman).
A memorial service will be held August 13, 2022 at 10:00AM at St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1280 Poplar Street, Denver, CO, 80220. Parking is available in the back lot off Quebec.
Memorials can be made to Doctors Without Borders or to St Luke's Episcopal Church in Bob's name.
