Robinson Gardner "Robb" Lapp was born on March 27, 1933 in Buffalo, New York to Robinson Gardner Lapp and Helen Dillard (Griffin) Lapp. He died on May 6, 2022 in Denver, Colorado at age 89 in the presence of loved ones. His beloved wife of 63 years, Janet Richardson (Wallace) Lapp, predeceased him on September 19, 2018. The family celebrates the fact that they are reunited for eternal life together.

Robb spent his life trying to make the world a better place. After graduating from Ohio Wesleyan University and Chicago Theological Seminary (CTS) in 1956 with a Bachelor of Divinity degree, he was ordained as a minister but spent most of his "ministering" outside the doors of the Church seeking social justice and racial equality. After moving to Arvada, Colorado in 1962 to start and build the First United Church of Christ of Arvada, Robb became Executive Director of the Metro Denver Fair Housing Center in 1967. In 1973 he moved his family to Texas to help create the New Town of The Woodlands, Texas and as Vice President for Community Development he was responsible for government affairs and was instrumental in creating the structure of local governance and community services that exist in the community today.

In 1982 he returned to Colorado where he built (with his own hands) a passive solar house in the foothills between Boulder and Golden. Robb and Jan lived in the house on the mountain until 2006 when Robb's doctor suggested that he should move to sea level due to a heart condition. They moved all the way down the mountain to Arvada which was close enough to sea level for Robb.

In 1995 Robb co-founded a faith-based non-profit affiliated with the United Church of Christ to provide service-enriched affordable housing for low-to-moderate income families in the Denver Metro region and Colorado Springs. Today Archway Communities has 10 rental housing communities and provides integrated housing and supportive services to more than 1,500 residents. Two additional properties are under construction. Robb was serving as Chairman of the Board of Directors at the time of his death.

Robb returned to CTS at age 84 and earned a Master of Sacred Theology degree, sixty years after earning his first degree, becoming the oldest graduate in CTS history. His thesis, Hitting the Streets with Jesus – A Spiritual Journey, addressed the non-traditional ministry that was the foundation of his life's work. He later wrote a book, Listening for the Holy, in which he contemplated his life and his relationship with God in this way:

This blessing comes from God.  My life's deal with the Holy has been "Robb, if you seek to love the most unlovable, live with courage, do justice, walk humbly, and, if you die while seeking to do what the Holy is whispering, my benediction for you will be: 'Well done, good and faithful servant.'"

Robb is survived by his children Robyn Lapp, Stuart (Eve) Lapp, and Karen (Joel) Ronzheimer, his grandchildren Brittany (Jay) Thornton, Cornelia Cifelli, Chelsea Gregg, Nellaine Nall, and his great-grandchildren Aubrey Gurkin, Erin Mulkey, Trinity Gurkin, and Everly Cifelli.

Robb spent his lifetime seeking to do what he heard God whispering to him. And so we say to Robb: Well done, good and faithful servant.

On June 11, 2022 at 4:00 pm the family will host a celebration of life at La Foret Conference and Retreat Center, 6145 Shoup Road, Colorado Springs, CO, 80908, a place that is very special for Robb and his family.
