Ross E.
Davis Jr.
January 17, 1949 – October 11, 2024
Ross Davis, Jr. passed away on October 11, 2024, at his residence in Vail, Colorado at the age of 75.
A fourth generation Colorado native, his association with Vail started in March 1961, when he was 12 years old when he skied, with his father and brother and Pete Seibert and other investors, on a snow cat tour of what would become Vail Mountain, before any lift was built or any run cut. An original Lifetime passholder he was at Vail's opening day in December 1962.
After graduating from Colgate University and University of Denver Law School he moved to Vail permanently in 1974 where he practiced law for 50 years. He served the community as a Board Member and President of the Vail Recreational District from 1994 to 2002. In 1975 he founded the restaurant and bar known today as Bart & Yeti's in Lionshead, and remained the majority owner, holding the longest running liquor license in the Vail Valley. He took full advantage of Vail's recreational activities, often skiing 150 days and playing over 90 rounds of golf a year. He was also a Vail Valley Squash champion and was inducted into the Vail Rugby Club Hall of Fame. A stroke in 2011 limited his physical abilities but even with his physical challenges he remained determined to stay active and always maintained a very positive attitude.
He is survived by his brother Mark Davis and his wife Sara of Denver and EagleVail, sisters Carol Lee Davis of Denver and Mary Lynn Davis of Franklin, Ma. as well as eight nieces and nephews and their children.
A Celebration of Ross' Life is planned for November 9, 2024 at 3:00 pm at Bart and Yeti's restaurant 553 E Lionshead Cir, Vail, CO 81657. All friends, family and acquaintances are invited to attend.
