Gordon Russell Fowler Jr., known as Rusty to his family and friends, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on May 22, 2024 at the age of 79. Rusty was born in Dallas, Texas, January 13, 1945 to Gordon Russell and Dixie Fowler.
Rusty was raised in Arlington Texas and grew up with all of his cousins and family close by. Rusty graduated from Arlington High School and attended University of Texas and served in the Army Reserves while in college. He began his career in property tax with the city of Dallas and then joined the Ad Valorem tax department at The Southland Corporation where he met his future wife, Carol. Rusty and Carol were married September 18, 1982. They resided in Arlington, Texas, and welcomed their first child, Amy, in 1984. His career brought him and his family to Colorado in 1987. Their second child, Devin, was born in Littleton, Colorado in 1991.
Rusty finished his career as Property Tax Director at AIMCO and retired in 2015. He loved skiing with his family and going four wheeling in his jeep. He enjoyed golfing and was an avid reader. Rusty was very involved at St. Andrew United Methodist Church; he took all of the Disciple classes and later went on to facilitate several classes. Rusty and Carol volunteered at Urban Peak, serving breakfast to youth experiencing homelessness in the Denver area, and served as a Stephen's Minister for several years.
Rusty was a beloved husband, father, and grandfather ("Baba" to his grandkids) and is survived by his wife, Carol (Averitt) Fowler, who was blessed to spend 41 wonderful years married to him. He is also survived by his son, Devin Russell Fowler, his daughter, Amy Danielle Fowler-Funk (Shawn), and his two grandchildren, Carsyn and Brecken Funk.
His Celebration of Life will take place on Tuesday, May 28, 2024 at 2:00 p.m. St. Andrew United Methodist Church 9203 S University Blvd Highlands Ranch, CO 80126.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Urban Peak in Rusty's name.
