Obituary

Sandy was born on Valentines Day, February 14, 1946 in Denver, Colorado to Rene and Florence Godioz. She entered eternal life on August 10, 2023 at the age of 77.  Sandy married the love of her life, Edward Schmidt, on May 25, 1973 and lived in the Denver area with their blended families.

Sandy attended Garden Place Elementary, Horace Mann Junior High School and graduated from North High School in 1964.  She also attended Colorado State University.  Sandy retired from the City and County of Denver in 1996 after 28 years of service as a medical records technician.

Sandy and Ed loved to travel the world including Aruba, Austria, Canada, Germany, Greece, Hawaii, Italy, Spain, Switzerland and Turkey.  After a long day of sightseeing, she enjoyed a nightly cocktail of Drambuie. Sandy was an excellent cook, crafter, seamstress, enjoyed camping in our beautiful mountains and loved watching the fireworks every 4th of July. She also was an avid fan of the Colorado Rockies and the Denver Broncos.  Sandy was an active member of Saint Thomas Episcopal Church for many years.

Sandy's family would like to thank the entire staff of the Holly Heights Nursing Care Center and members of the Denver Hospice team for the love, compassion and excellent care they provided in the last two years of her life. She truly enjoyed all of the wonderful friendships she made at Holly Heights including her dining companions, Billie, Lisa and Nadine.  Sandy loved to play bingo and blackjack with her friends and made us all laugh when she excitedly told us she had won a whopping 30 cents!

She is survived by her husband, Ed, stepsons Kevin (Fara) and Brian Schmidt, 7 grandchildren, 11 great grandchildren, and sister Jan Jester (Randy). Sandy was the loving godmother of Brad Jester and Laurie Bothwell. There are also numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many dear friends who survive her.  Sandy is preceded in death by her daughter, Lisa, and a granddaughter, Azurae. We know that her beloved fur baby, Daisy, and several other family pets joyfully greeted her as she entered her final destination in Heaven.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectively requests donations be made to the Denver Dumb Friends League or a charity of your choice.

Your life was a blessing, your memory a treasure, you are loved beyond words and missed beyond measure.  Rest in peace, dear Sandy, we will love you forever and will miss your beautiful smile.  Until we meet again…
