Obituary

Sandra Darlene Villarreal (Ackerman) passed away in Denver on April 12, 2024 at the age of 85. She was born January 8, 1939 in Henderson, Michigan to Edwin C. and Leola Fern Ackerman.

Sandra was valedictorian of the Class of 1958 at Leavenworth High School, and graduated from the University of Kansas with a degree in Spanish Education.  She later received a Master's Degree in Spanish Education from North Texas State, and a Master's Degree in Anthropology from CU Denver.

Sandy taught high school Spanish, and spent a large part of her career as a Business Analyst for US Bank.  She was a dedicated volunteer, tutoring English, working in the food pantry, and supporting local non-profit organizations, including Friendship Force, where she served as President and board member.

She was an avid collector of Armadillos, amassing nearly 1000.  She loved to travel, camp near Rocky Mountain National Park, read, work jigsaw puzzles and crossword puzzles, and she enjoyed watching sports.  A lifelong learner and MENSA member, she enjoyed the Great Courses, and completed many courses over the last few years.

She is survived by her husband of 64 years Ramón F. Villarreal, son Steven Villarreal and wife Lisa, daughter Rosana Crouch and husband Jack, Grandchildren Laura Villarreal, Stephanie Villarreal, Andrew Villarreal and wife Emma, Isabelle Crouch, Elena Crouch and fiancée Olivia Blackwell, Great Granddaughter Maya Villarreal, and cousin Thomas Parker.

A private service for family and friends will be scheduled at a future date.
