Obituary

Sheldon Owen Fertman passed away Saturday, March 18, 2023, at St. Joseph's Hospital in Denver, CO. He was 88 years.  He was born on January 28, 1935, in Brooklyn, New York to Alfred and Gertrude. He moved to Denver with his family at an early age. He attended school in Denver and ultimately attained a degree in business from the University of Denver.

Throughout high school, Sheldon played violin in the school's orchestra. During this time, he was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol, and as an Outstanding Cadet award recipient, received an all-expenses-paid trip to Portugal. This trip led to a lifelong interest in travel.

He married Roberta Simon in 1956, who passed away in 2003. In his early adulthood Sheldon shared his passion of travel and experiencing different cultures with his wife Roberta and his children. In his later years his passions turned to dancing and socializing with friends, which he shared with his life partner Evelyn Whisman. Sheldon and Evelyn also loved to cruise and to take long walks and photos in the Denver Botanic Gardens.

Sheldon is survived by his companion Evelyn Whisman, his children; Alison Taren, Jay Fertman (Lisa), Kathy Ash (Erin), his grandchildren; Shoshana Dietrich (Todd Snyder), Aaron Dietrich (d. 2018) (Ashleigh), Kira (Kevin Connors), Ari Dietrich, Alexia Ash, (Adrian Rogstad), Kylie Ash, Chaz Byrne, Zach Fertman (d. 2022), Arielle Fertman, and Kayla Fertman, his great grandchildren; Eli Dietrich, Willow Dietrich, Brendan Connors, Caitlin Connors, Patrick Aaron Connors, and Embla Ash, sister Sherry Rubin (Warren), his niceces and nephews; Debra Clamp (Scott), Michelle Lewis (Jay), Stuart Rubin (Stephanie) and great-nieces and nephews; Gabrielle Mason, Joshua Mason, Chandler Clamp, Spencer Rubin, Finley Lewis, and Sutton Lewis.
