Stanley T.
Fujimoto
April 15, 1951 – January 30, 2023
Stanley (Stan) Fujimoto, age 71, passed peacefully at home the morning of Monday, January 30, 2023, in Aurora, Colorado surrounded by family and friends.
Born on the Big Island of Hawaii to Fujie and Shigeru Fujimoto, Stan was the second of three sons. Growing up in Hawaii with his brothers nurtured his playful demeanor and rambunctious spirit. Ever the rascal, Stan delighted in chasing his brothers amongst the mango, cherry, and guava trees in the front yard of his family home. Stan benefitted from the mentorship of lifelong friend Harry Kim, who, along with his parents, helped guide Stan into early adulthood. Since a young age, Stan had aspired to join the military and decided to enlist while still a Senior in high school. Stan narrowly graduated from Honokaa High School in 1969.
Only five days after graduation, Stan reported to Fort Ord, California for basic training as a member of Company C, 4th Battalion, 1st Brigade. During his time in the military, Stan was deployed to the Vietnam War and received several awards and decorations, including the Bronze Star.
In the early 70's Stan made his way to Colorado when he was stationed in Fort Carson. For a short time, Stan moved to Fort Collins to live with friends and could easily be spotted behind the wheel of his purple Volkswagen – perfectly suited to his personality.
Stan eventually moved to the Denver Metro Area residing in Lakewood, then Aurora. He and former spouse Jan became parents to three children: Todd (deceased), Sean, and Lindsey. Stan flourished in his role as a father and despite never playing soccer himself, became soccer coach to both Sean and Lindsey's soccer teams. Stan was always present for athletic events, gymnastic meets, hula dancing demonstrations, and any of his kid's many activities. Stan's mentorship and love did not stop with his own children. He was an important and cherished figure in the lives of his many nieces and nephews from childhood into adulthood.
For nearly 40 years, Stan worked in the airline industry. He started in the kitchen and eventually worked his way into specializing in computer hardware systems. His career carried him to airports big and small, spanning all corners of the country. It only took a walk around the airport with Stan to realize how well-known he was amongst colleagues, gate agents, and the broader airport community. Stan would eventually retire in 2013.
Throughout his life, Stan was an avid angler, frequently traveling across the West and North to Alaska in pursuit of trophy trout, salmon, and halibut. He continually traveled back to Hawaii to visit family and friends with whom he remained close for his entire life.
Stan was well known as the life of the party. He could frequently be found up the hill in Blackhawk with excursions to Las Vegas, testing his luck (and often winning) at video poker – his favorite.
Later in his life, one of Stan's greatest joys was being a grandpa. An active and involved grandfather, Stan would often take his grandson Connor Pokémon hunting and embark upon whatever adventure would bring happiness to his grandson's life.
Stan's memory lives on in the hearts of his loving children – son Sean and daughter Lindsey, son-in-law Jon, grandson Connor, Mother, brother Scott and his wife Ilima, brother Wes and his wife Audrey, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends. Stan was predeceased by his son Todd and father.
