Obituary

Steve, a former Denver teacher and loving husband, father and brother, died at home surrounded by family Saturday, August 31, 2019 after a long struggle with cancer. He was 72.

Steve was born in Denver on June 25, 1947, the son of Donald B. and Dorothy D. (Abercrombie) Oblock. He graduated from Manual High School in Denver and later earned a degree in Physics from the University of Colorado at Denver.

He was an Eagle Scout, a proud Marine and Viet Nam veteran and a Peace Corps volunteer that served three years in Swaziland, Africa.

As a Denver Public School teacher for 22 years, he shared his love of learning with everyone, believing knowledge should be freely shared. He fostered curiosity and brought ubiquitous kindness to the world around him without bias. His generosity of spirit was hallmarked by his inviting smile and open arms. He cared deeply about the world and its people and loved those closest to him with a loyal ferocity.

He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Margaret (Macdonald), daughters Kristine and Katherine Oblock, and son-in-law J.P. Bertaina.  He is also survived by his sister Donna Boone, brother in-laws Tom Macdonald and Paul Houston, his nieces Margaret Anne (Houston) Simpson and Monica Houston, and nephews Jeff Paiz, Ken Paiz, Aaron Houston, Patrick Houston and Garrett Macdonald.
