Obituary

Stome Tanita was born on November 26, 1929 and passed away peacefully at home on April 11, 2024.

He was the 11th of 13 children, 12 of whom were boys and one girl. As a boy, he and his brothers worked on the family farm.  After  graduating Glendale High School, he attended Phoenix College and University of Arizona. He and 9 brothers served in the US Army. Stome was stationed in Germany.  After his discharge, he decided farming was not for him and moved to Denver.

His dream of owning a sporting goods store became a reality when he and friends Jim Shinto and Harold Horiuchi formed Sports International and stayed in business for over 20 years.

Stome stayed active his whole life. He loved playing tennis, skiing, bowling, fishing, and staying fit, but especially loved golf.  After his retirement, he became a starter and ranger at the Inverness Golf Club for 28 years. His friendly, kind, optimistic attitude won him many friends. He enjoyed visiting relatives in Arizona and California and being with grandsons on vacation trips such as Carmel, Monterey, the Grand Canyon, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand.

He is survived by his wife, Yoshie; son, Roger; daughter, Judy; grandsons Ryan and Sean Nayebi.

Celebration of Life will be held on July 5, 2024 from 10:00am to 1:00pm at Inverness Golf Course 200 Inverness Dr W Suite 100, Englewood, CO 80112.
