Su
Zerwin
April 18, 1941 – November 30, 2024
Verna Su (Holland) Zerwin of Louisville, Colorado, passed away and went home to the Lord on November 30, 2024. Su was born on April 18, 1941 in LaRue, Ohio to Lauren and Sarah Holland.
She is survived by her son, John (Mireille) of Lafayette; her daughter, Sarah (Paul Strode) of Boulder; her three grandchildren, Julia (22), Jane (21), and Mathieu (19); her sisters, Darlene, Barbara, and Laureen; and many beloved nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, Ted Zerwin in 2016, and her twin sister, Myrna Lu in 2021.
The loving care Su received while hospitalized for polio as a child began her interest in an eventual career as an accomplished nurse and caregiver. She earned her nursing degree from the Mount Carmel college of nursing in Columbus, Ohio. After meeting Ted in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and soon marrying him, they moved to Denver in 1969 so he could complete a master's degree in social work at the University of Denver. Su worked as a nurse in varied settings in Denver, including several years at both Mercy Hospital and as a care manager for Human Network Systems. Her true gift was in working with senior patients and clients. Once Su herself became a resident of assisted living and memory care, her instincts were to care for those around her, and she needed reminders that she was no longer the caregiver.
A devout Catholic, Su displayed her faith in the kindness, empathy and unconditional love that infused everything she did. Her legacy is the life of faith she lived, showing us all how to care for each other.
Su's family sends gratitude to Balfour Senior Living in Louisville for the loving and compassionate care she received over the last few years.
Her ashes will be interred alongside those of her husband at the cemetery at Sacred Heart of Mary Catholic Church, 6739 South Boulder Road, Boulder, CO 80303. A memorial will take place sometime in March. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to The Arthritis Foundation or to Alzheimer's Foundation of America to support research on dementia in Su's name.
