Obituary

Susan Anne Buschar, a shining star of culture and community in Columbus, OH and Parker, CO, passed away July 7, 2023 surrounded by family, flowers, music and love. She leaves a huge hole in the hearts of her family and friends who enjoyed her sharp wit, contagious smile, delicious cooking and engaging conversation.

Born Susan Stansberry on February 6, 1942 in Dayton, OH to Edith and Elmer Stansberry. She attended Wilbur Wright High School. During her junior year, she attended a journalism camp at Ohio University where she fell in love with the campus. After high school graduation, she attended Ohio University studying education. It was at her beloved OU, that she met her husband of 58 years, David Buschar. Susan graduated from Ohio University with a degree in Secondary Education and Social Studies.  Susan later received her Masters Degree from Ashland University in Library Science.

Universally, Susan's friends felt that they were truly blessed to have her as their friend. One friend said it best, "she was one-of-a-kind". As Susan's friend, you were the recipient of her welcoming smile and positive attitude. Her generosity and devotion to her friendships extended to book recommendations, gardening, flower arranging, party planning, decorating and fashion tips, to name just a few. Each friend remembers fondly receiving articles that could assist them in all of these areas. Additionally, friends marveled at how each home where she resided had exquisite decorating and was left with a beautiful garden. She was an absolute gift in friendship and is missed immensely in each friendship setting. Her multitude of talents live on in each person fortunate enough to call her their friend.

Susan was a beloved high school librarian at Hilliard High School for 28 years during that time she held the role of Media Specialist, Honor Society Advisor, Prom Advisor and designer of the Renaissance White Card luncheons.

Gardens and flowers were an integral part of Susan's life. All of her homes had extensive gardens and she shared her horticulture passion and talents by volunteering at the Franklin Park Conservatory, Upper Arlington Garden Club and seasonally created altar arrangements for her church.

Susan's love of travel began as a child with a family trip to the sea shore. David and Susan shared that passion and became world travelers later in life. She was an avid and enthusiastic traveler who would eventually visit countries on 4 continents, including Europe, Africa, South America, Asia, Indonesia and Mexico collecting treasures and friendships along the way.

She is survived by her sister, Joyce Fisher, husband, David Buschar, daughter, Amy (Nick) and son, Timothy (Robyn) and her 3 beloved grandchildren Olivia, Tatum and Brooke. Those who knew her would say she was born an adventurer with a voracity for all that life had to offer.   We like to envision her looking down on us with her beloved Scottish and West Highland Terriers by her side. She is predeceased in death by her parents, Edith and Elmer Stansberry.
