Susan E Mikes, age 82, loving mother of five and devoted wife to Patrick W. Mikes passed away peacefully at home October 20, 2026.
Sue was born in Denver on January 20, 1944 to Lt. Col. Harold S Spitzer and Mildred Spitzer. Along with her sister Mary and her brother George, she enjoyed an adventurous childhood traveling with her military family to Taiwan, San Fransisco, Fort Knox, and the Pentagon before returning to Denver. Their travels and loving family sparked her love for travel and adventure. Her grandparents, Ruby and George Spitzer nurtured her lifelong love of animals and farming.
Pat and Sue were high school sweethearts who married February 25, 1961 and raised five kind-hearted, successful children. Their 65 years of marriage were a beautiful testament to their deep and enduring love for each other.
Sue believed you could accomplish anything with determination, commitment, and hard work, and with Pat created a wonderful, loving family and successful business. She found joy in mastering numerous skills that she generously shared with family and friends. Her many talents included raising and training dogs, a keen business woman, cooking, gemology, farming, traveling, a seamstress, and a skilled hunter among others.
Above all Sue was an amazing mother to her her five children, Caroline Baros, Gary Mikes, Annette Tarantino, Theresa Geelan and Daniel Mikes. Her greatest legacy is the family that she and Pat built together. She leaves behind her beloved husband Patrick: her five children; 13 grandchildren; and 23 great grandchildren who adore and love her deeply.
“Though our hearts are heavy we know she will be joining her granddaughter Kandice, parents, and brother George as an angel in heaven. We will treasure the countless, wonderful memories and life experiences she gave us. Her love, strength and adventurous spirit will live on in the generations she leaves behind.”
