Obituary

Thomas Scott Levy was born in Chicago, Illinois on June 29, 1951, to Arthur and Jean Levy. The youngest of three, Tom grew up in the Chicago suburb of Westchester and attended George F. Nixon Elementary School and graduated from Proviso West High School in 1969.  Throughout his schooling he made several friends who he remained in close contact with until his passing.  Tom continued his education at Illinois State University and enjoyed his time in the "Delta Tau Fraternity" as he and his college roommates christened themselves.  Even after college the group enjoyed reuniting for an annual golf tournament and sometimes vacationing together.

Tom graduated from Illinois State in December 1973 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Technology.  Throughout his career, Tom continuously worked in safety and loss prevention. In fact, his children sometimes referred to him as "Mr. Safety."  He began his career with Continental Insurance Company, working as a Safety Engineer from their office in downtown Chicago.  Tom later worked for The Chubb Group of Insurance Company and transferred from Chicago to their Denver office in December of 1979. He then began working for CNA in 1986.  One of the highlights of his career was being selected to receive the CNA CARE award for exemplary service in 1990.  In 1999, Tom started working for Pinnacol Assurance and continued with Pinnacol until his retirement in 2019.  Tom's co-workers speak fondly of his dedication to his work, sense of humor, and skill in building relationships with his clients.

After moving to Colorado in 1979, Tom quickly took advantage of all the outdoor activities Colorado has to offer and was an avid skier for many years.  He also enjoyed country music and swing dancing, which led to him being introduced to A. J., who had also recently moved to Colorado.  They were married in April 1982 and had three children together.  Although Tom and A.J. divorced in 2005, they remained friendly through the years. Tom often spent many Sunday afternoons with A.J. and their children playing games, enjoying a meal, going to Rockies games, or attending events around the city.  Tom also loved to grill and was frequently called on to cook steaks or hamburgers for family gatherings.

In his retirement, Tom appreciated the company of friends and family.  He served on the property committee at his co-op and helped organize a singles group.  He enjoyed a good beer, watching sporting events, going for hikes, attending concerts, and traveling to places like Las Vegas and Hawaii.  Although soft spoken, Tom's friends remember him as having a great sense of humor and a kind heart.

Tom is survived by his three children, Morgan, Micah, and Tanner; his ex-wife A.J.; his two siblings Gail and David; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members. He is preceded in death by his mother Jean, and his father Arthur.
