Thomas J.
Robertson
March 6, 1942 – May 4, 2022
Thomas J. Robertson was born on March 6, 1942, in Shreveport, Louisiana, to the union of Thomas Robertson and Pinkie Choyce Robertson. He was the third oldest child of seven siblings. He attended Brooks Street Elementary School, Central Junior High School, and subsequently graduated from Booker T. Washington High School in 1960. After graduating from high school, Thomas attended Southern University and Agricultural and Mechanical College in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He later moved to Colorado to be with his sister and to attend the University of Colorado. While in Denver he met the love of his life, Marilyn Joyce Roberts (affectionately called Joyce). They were married in October of 1962 and two children were born to this union: Michael and Michelle Robertson.
Thomas worked at the United States Postal Service in Denver from 1961-1992 and held several different positions to include mail clerk, tour superintendent, and maintenance program specialist – senior. He worked at several locations throughout the Denver-metro area during his employment including the Terminal Annex, the Bulk Mail Center, and the General Mail Facility. Thomas possessed a unique ability to identify significantly low mail productivity issues and to rectify the situation immediately. He was often requested around the country in large cities such as Washington, D.C. as well as cities in the state of Colorado to assist mail facilities with distribution problems. Thomas retired in November of 1992 at the age of 50 after 30 years of federal service.
Upon retiring, Thomas started his own business, Robertson Consultants, where he served as a consultant for the United States Post Office providing advice on mail distribution issues. Soon, he heard the call of retirement again and chose to retire-- again. He spent his days traveling with Joyce, the children, and grandchildren. Thomas loved to spend time with his family and always enjoyed a good meal. He was a family-oriented man who loved supporting family on trips, social activities, church activities, sports activities, school functions, and attending family reunions in Waskom, Texas. He would often provide financial advice, lawn care advice, house maintenance advice, car advice, and tax advice as well as life-lessons to those he encountered.
Thomas was his grandchildren's biggest cheerleader and avid supporter who affectionately referred to him as Grandpa or Tiny. He loved to fish and golf. He even won several trophies playing in local Postal Service golf tournaments. He loved working on his cars, working in his yard, and working with computers.
Thomas passed away at home on May 4, 2022, at a great loss to his family. His memories will always be cherished and remembered by those who loved him dearly: his wife of 59 years Marilyn Joyce Robertson; one son Michael Robertson; one daughter Michelle Blackmon (Gary); 4 grandchildren, 1 great-grandchild, and 4 sisters. He also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
