Obituary

Thomas Lee Zimmerman of Aurora, CO lost his battle with pancreatic cancer on May 22, 2025, at 75 years old.

He was born on April 22, 1950, in Alexandria, VA to Ernest and Isabel Zimmerman (née Fischer). Tom grew up in Aurora, CO with his parents and four brothers, Michael, David, Gary and Jim (James), attending St. Therese Catholic School, eventually graduating from Aurora Central High School in 1968.

In 1970, Thomas married Sharon Zimmerman (née Bradshaw) and they had three beautiful daughters together. His greatest joys were his children and grandchildren – daughters Sara, Dana and Nicole, and grandchildren Shanelle, Celia, Che and Jaxson.

Tom worked for Frontier Airlines at Stapleton airport in the early days of his career. From there, he moved to the City & County of Denver where he worked Ground Transportation at D.I.A. and went on to become a Senior City Inspector, later retiring from that position.

He loved spending time with family, playing guitar with friends, listening to music (Eric Clapton, Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Paul Simon, The Doors), garage sale-ing, antiquing, books, reading, coaching his daughters' sports teams and being outdoors. He always enjoyed playing volleyball with his children and their friends. His hat collection is one to be envied.

Holidays with family were always special to him. Christmas was his favorite holiday, and he was very proud of his Christmas village houses that he spent his adult life hand painting, which will be passed on to his daughters. He loved shooting off fireworks with his kids and grandkids on the 4th of July.

In his later years of life as a resident of Windsor Gardens, he made some great friends and enjoyed participating in the community events and dances, taking yoga classes, walking the trails and riding his bike when possible.

His greatest accomplishments were his children – who he called his "supreme reason for being here" – his extensive antique lighter collection and riding Slick Rock in Moab, UT in his late 40s. He loved visiting Estes Park, CO and very much enjoyed a trip to Europe (Germany and Poland) in 1999.

Tom Zimmerman is survived by his four brothers, Michael, David (Tracy), Gary (Jeanne) and Jim (Glenda); daughters Sara (Sean), Dana (Miche) and Nicole (Michael), his grandchildren, many cousins and nieces and nephews. Preceded in death by his parents.

A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, June 29, 2025, 12:00pm to 4:00pm at the Montclair Civic Building at 6820 E. 12 Ave., Denver, CO 80220.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations are made to pancreatic cancer research, preferably PanCAN . Pancreatic cancer is one of the most aggressive forms of cancer, with the least effective treatment options.
