Obituary

Tripta Kohli Wadhwa, born on November 26, 1937, in Bara Manga, Punjab, passed away on November 23, 2025, surrounded by family in Denver, Colorado.

Her life began in a region on the cusp of historic change. At age ten, she and her family embarked on a widely storied journey to Amritsar, India during the Partition. After graduating from Punjab University in Chandigarh, Tripta pursued graduate studies in mathematics at Delhi University where she met her future husband, Bhushan Wadhwa. They had a "love marriage" which was unusual for its time.

With just two suitcases and two flight tickets purchased by her family, the two immigrated to the United States, each pursuing graduate studies at Indiana University. After arriving in America, they welcomed their two sons, Sandeep (1967) and Sunil (1968), just ten months apart.

Tripta and Bhushan later settled in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, where Tripta built a rich and purposeful life. She taught mathematics at Cuyahoga Community College and Cleveland State University before beginning a successful career as a Systems Analyst at SOHIO and then Progressive Insurance. For over forty years, she called Cleveland Heights home; nurturing friendships, hosting gatherings, devouring books from the local library, and hiking all across the world.

In 2010, Tripta moved to Denver, Colorado to be closer to family and to enjoy the mountain vistas. She could be found practicing tai chi, solving sudoku and word-search puzzles, attempting to teach her grandchildren how to cook traditional Indian food, and sharing her love of mathematics with them. A lifelong believer in meditation, Tripta was often seen walking through her retirement community performing breathing exercises, often with her family or friends in tow.

Tripta was predeceased by her husband, Bhushan. She is survived by her two sons, Sandeep and Sunil, and her six grandchildren, Nikhil, Ethan, Jenny, Maya, Natalie and Adrian, all of whom carry forward her love of learning, her adventurous spirit, and her deep appreciation for the world's beauty. She also had a particularly affectionate bond to her nephew, Bhrigu.

Tripta's life was defined by her strength, intellect, independence, adventure, friendships and family. She will be profoundly missed and lovingly remembered. In lieu of flowers, the family would welcome donations to: Epic Program in memory of Tripta Wadhwa Cleveland State University Foundation UN501 2121 Euclid Avenue, Cleveland OH, 44115.
