Trygve R.
Schneider
August 4, 1974 – April 27, 2024
The cosmic drummer and magical musician Trygve Richard Schneider, beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend, passed away April 27, 2024, with his family by his side. He was 49. Trygve was born in Denver on August 4, 1974. His unexpected passing came after a short hospitalization and complications while being treated for an undisclosed medical condition. Trygve's family, friends, and musician pals will never forget him.
Some of his drummer heroes included Neil Pert, Buddie Rich, and Gene Morello. He was an inveterate fan of Pert's band, RUSH, and played for several years with a local RUSH tribute band. Some of his other favorite bands included Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin. Trygve also was a founding member of the popular Colorado large band, Homeslice, performed and produced a number of jazz and new rock albums and extended plays with local musicians, including Chris Lawhead, Matt Skellinger, Jason Berg, and Dave Powers. He jammed with whomever wanted to jam, family and friends. During his music career, Trygve expanded far beyond percussion, writing and producing songs, learning the keyboard, guitar, electric bass, and tenor sax.
In the early 2000s, he traveled to Russia with the University of Colorado Denver Dixieland jazz band, the Claim Jumpers, to perform on stage to standing ovations at the Moscow Conservatory of Music, the Russian equivalent to the USA's Carnegie Hall. At night, during that trip, he sat in at Moscow jazz clubs. He also performed with the Claim Jumpers at the Sacramento Jazz Jubilee in 2000.
Trygve also mastered the art of audio engineering. During college he built his own studio to work on his school projects because he could not get enough time on the campus-based studios to do what he wanted to do. He later recorded many local bands, as well as his own work with his musical colleagues with that setup, known as the Bates Motel Studio. Later, at his home in Englewood, Colorado, he built a two-room studio inside his oversized two-car garage: Bates Motel Studio II. The two room studio (control room and recording studio) featured angled walls, double pane angled control room windows, super insulated exterior walls, and was fully suspended from the building itself using homemade wall suspension brackets fashioned from pieces of thick rubber mats and standard framing hardware to acoustically isolate the studio from the rest of the building.
Trygve graduated from Overland High School in 1991. He spent two years in Greeley at the University of Northern Colorado, where he became a member of the Sigma Pi Fraternity, before transferring to the University of Colorado Denver where he graduated in 2001 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Music and a minor in audio engineering.
While he was in Greeley at UNC, he perfected his computer skills and became a self-taught Information Technology expert. He worked for UNC's IT department for several years, and throughout the rest of his professional career, Trygve worked as a Network Administrator for several Colorado firms. The IT work kept the wolves at bay. The music fed his soul. He had a great sense of humor and a beautiful, dimpled smile.
Besides music, his interests were varied, and included drone piloting and photography (he was an expert at this), astronomy (a real love), space exploration (he tracked much of what went on off-planet), movies, documentaries, camping, hiking, bicycling, ham radio (KB0WNZ), vintage computers (remember CP/M?), rebuilding vintage cars (he owned and worked on two vintage Ford Broncos and a 1998 Toyota 4Runner), and safe motorcycle and motor scooter piloting. He could fix anything. If he didn't know how to fix or rebuild it, he would learn how to do it. He enjoyed online gaming with his siblings and nephews.
Trygve is survived by his wife, Youjin (Lee) Schneider; grandmother Jeanne M. Schneider; father, Richard J. Schneider; mother, Kathleen E. Gleason; brothers Kevin Schneider and Liam Schneider; sister Clarissa Schneider; sisters-in-law Kim (DeMattia) Schneider and Jamie (Park) Schneider; brother-in-law Craig Wasilewski; nephews Darin, Brysen, Alec, Justin and Sawyer; cousins Oshia, Amara, Terra and Sara, Brenda, Holly, and Karl; aunts Kathie Meg Golden and Arlene Gibson; and uncles Edward Rydquist and Jim Gibson. Some of his lifelong buddies were virtual family members, including Jason Berg, Dave Powers, and JJ Hernandez.
A celebration of life is scheduled for Wednesday, July 10, 2024, 3:30 p.m., at Robert F. Clement Park 7306 W Bowles Ave, Littleton, Colorado 80123, Picnic Shelter N (near amphitheater).
