Obituary

Dick passed away peacefully in is home surrounded by his loving family under the compassionate care of Peace Hospice and Touching Hearts Home Health Care.

Dick was born on a farm in Brighton, Colorado to George Shumpei Nawata and Takeno Momii and had 6 siblings. He served in the US Army during WWII with the 442nd Regimental Combat Team (the most decorated regiment in WWII), fighting to liberate Italy. He obtained his Medical Degree from the University of Colorado and had a long successful family practice in Denver. He compassionately cared for many low income and ethnically diverse patients over the years.

Dick was a gentle man and very accomplished in his life. He was an avid, expert skier until age 88 and golfed until age 93 with his beloved wife and family. His many family, friends, and former patients will miss him.

He is survived by his wife, Chizuko; children Keith (Sybil), Paula (Gene) and George (Crystal); grandchildren Valerie, Ian, Adam and Austin; great grandchildren Alexandra and Nicollette.

There will be a private family committal service at Fort Logan National Cemetery Monday, August 31 2020, where he will be interred with military recognition and a small Buddhist service per his wishes.
