Obituary

Eric L. Porter (age 51) of Denver, Colorado, left this world at sunset on May 13.  He died from complications of a bone marrow transplant for leukemia. He was born in Champaign, Illinois and grew up in Colorado Springs.  Eric attended Adams State College and graduated from Colorado State University with a bachelor's degree in Art. He was the driving force behind Porterrific Design, Inc. for 24 years, developing custom computer graphics for the building controls industry.

Eric's passion was Art.  He leaves behind a body of work that includes fine art drawings, book illustration, and both bronze and mixed media sculpture. Honors include: Director's Choice award at Magnifico! Art of Albuquerque, and being a finalist for the National Endowment for the Arts/Andy Warhol Foundation award.  He and his wife Ingrid operate Studio Vagabondia.  See Eric's work at http://www.studiovagabondia.com/large-multi-view/Erics-drawings/3384149-11-246619/Drawing/facets.html

Eric was an active member of Art Gym Denver, and before his illness showed a series of drawings entitled "Moonlight Insights."  Most recently, he was at work on a visual project that depicted his personal struggle with leukemia and the fatigue of treatment as an ever-more-difficult climb.

He will be remembered for his infectious laugh and quick wit, as well as his gentle, deeply-thoughtful, and generous nature. Eric found his spiritual home at First Unitarian Society of Denver, becoming part of a men's group that offered him strength and support throughout his cancer journey.

Eric is survived by his wife Ingrid (vonBrockdorff) Porter, his parents Beverly (Busey) Porter and David Gross, and sister Kimberly Porter.
