Obituary

Paul Raymond Callahan peacefully passed on November 9, 2020, at the age of 88. Born to Paul and Florence Callahan on July 25, 1932 in Freehold NJ.  Paul grew up with two younger sisters, Joan and Barbara, and a large extended family.

At age 18 he joined the US Navy and toured the world on an aircraft carrier as a navigator/bombardier. Paul was part of the VC7 Aircraft Squadron during his service. The Navy helped him finance college, where he earned a degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder.  While attending CU, he met the love of his life, Alice Diane Coville (Diane). They were married on Aug 15, 1958 shortly after graduation.

The combination of flying experience and an EE degree allowed Paul to become a flight instructor for United Airlines where he taught hundreds of flight crews on the DC 6, DC, 8, 727, 737, and 747 aircraft.  Late in his career, Paul became a 2 nd officer on the 747 on the Honolulu, Hawaii to Narita, Japan route.

Paul was also a carpenter and  built his own house east of Parker, Colorado. Paul had three daughters and participated in many community activities. Including, volunteer fireman, volunteer sheriff, 55 alive, AARP, Parker senior center, UUC Hilltop Church, and the Masons.  Paul was passionate about traveling, airplanes, gliders, models, and cars. Paul was particularly ardent about Saabs. He and Diane traveled extensively after his retirement to every corner of the globe and frequently visited children and grandchildren.

Paul was a devoted husband and family man. Likewise, he participated in many community activities during his nearly seven decades in Parker. He had many friends and was a founding member of the local community church, UCC Hilltop Parker.

Surviving family members include his wife of 62 years Alice Diane Coville Callahan, daughters Susan Baker (Jimmie), Dr. Jill Morrow (Lance), and Dr. Wendy Conger (Mathew). Paul also has three grandchildren: Brent Baker, Alexandra Conger, and Sydney Conger. He was preceded in death by his sisters, Joan Stairs and Barbara Bahto.

Services will be postponed but will occur as health safety merits at United  Church of Christ Hilltop Parker,10926 Democrat Rd Parker, CO 80134.
